16-Channel Active Video Balun Receiver
Model: VAB1600R
The VAB1600R is a sixteen channel active device that allows reception of real-time monochrome (B/W) or color video using Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) cable. The unit receives sixteen channels of video from transmitter with RJ45 or screw terminals that’s available for connections and provides sixteen BNC video outputs.

The unit is compatible with active transmitter (e.g. VAB100T) and passive transceivers (e.g. VPB100, VPB400TRJ) with transmission distance up to 1200m / 4000ft and 600m / 2000ft respectively. Each switch can be independently adjusted for the different transmission distances and image quality based upon the type and quality of the cable being used. Housed in a standard 1U structure, VAB1600R is rack mountable and excellent for large surveillance system installation.

Troubleshooting:
All transmission distances mentioned above are without connecting image processors (e.g. Quad, Multiplexer, or DVR). The transmission range would be reduced to 300~600ft / 100~200m upon different camera, cable, DVR, etc.

These products are designed for long range transmission, utilizing the built-in video amplifier function. If your transmission range is under 300ft / 100m, setting the video gain function too high will result in snowy, wavy, or overly bright images. It is recommended that this product be used for long transmission distances over 300ft / 100m. For shorter distances use an alternate passive video transceiver such as the VBP100 or VBP100L series.

The active receiver has a switch with 4 different distance ranges for the range of transmissions. Please switch to the appropriate range upon your application to avoid any weak or bad image.

How does a balun work?
Baluns are used to convert between “Balanced and Unbalanced” electrical signals.
Baluns work by transforming the original unbalanced (video/power/data/etc.) signal to a balanced frequency used by a different cable, like CAT5 UTP. Not only does this reduce interference, but it also allows you to transmit a signal much longer than the original application would allow. Baluns are always utilized in pairs. One balun is needed to convert the original signal to a new frequency, and another balun is used at the other end to revert to the original frequency.

“Passive” Video Baluns do not require power, and can extend a signal up to 2000ft (B/W).
“Active” Video Baluns require power, but can extend a signal up to 8000ft (B/W).
